Founded in 2013, Veeba Food Services is a company launched by Viraj Bahl. While it started as a B2B company, it is today a leading retail company with a revenue of Rs 811 Cr in FY23. Viraj Bahl aspired to join his family’s food processing business, Fun Foods. After earning Rs 3 lakh per month through a maritime career and self-funded education, he joined Fun Foods in 2002. Six successful years later, the company was acquired in 2008. Viraj tried to dissuade his father from selling, but securing his children’s future was paramount. Although he received his share from the sale, Viraj’s entrepreneurial spirit drove him to enter the restaurant business in 2009. However, by 2013, his restaurant business faced challenges with empty tables and financial strain. With no funds, Bahl made a bold move, selling his house to relaunch in the food processing industry. In 2013, he founded Veeba on a small Neemrana plot, focusing on B2B operations with unique sauces and condiments. The initial six months saw the factory’s creation, but demand was meager. An investment from Deepak Shahdadpuri of DSG Consumer Partners provided a lifeline. Large orders from Domino’s, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and KFC revived Veeba, but it soon required more capital for expansion, prompting Shahdadpuri’s additional support. Currently, 8% of Veeba’s revenue is from B2B, while 92% comes from retail. They operate in 700+ cities with 1.5 lakh retail points and offer 80+ products in 14 categories, like eggless mayo and special ketchup. According to Forbes, Veeba made Rs 811 Cr in revenue in FY23 and posted a loss of Rs 0.5 Cr. For FY24, it is striking a revenue run-rate of over Rs 1000 Cr.
