Ar. Duseja’s fascination with architecture began in his youth, influenced by his love for art and design. The inception of Aastha Consultants in 1998 was born out of Ar. Duseja’s desire for creative freedom. Starting his own firm allowed him to take on projects that aligned with his personal values and design philosophy. “I wanted the freedom to create meaningful spaces,” he recalls. The firm has since gained recognition for its sustainable and thoughtful design approach.
One of Ar. Duseja’s key principles is the integration of sustainability into architecture. His projects often feature eco-friendly solutions such as rainwater harvesting, passive cooling, and natural lighting. “Sustainability should be a natural part of architecture,” he asserts. His work proves that design can be both functional and environmentally responsible, with projects that are built to last while minimizing their environmental footprint.
In addition to his technical expertise, Ar. Duseja places great emphasis on understanding the psychology of his clients. “Design is about connecting with people,” he says. While establishing Aastha Consultants was a rewarding experience, it was not without its challenges. Ar. Duseja had to navigate the complexities of running a business—securing funding, managing projects, and handling client relations. “You need grit, patience, and a willingness to learn,” he advises aspiring entrepreneurs. His perseverance and adaptability have been integral to his firm’s growth and success.
With a growing demand for sustainable buildings, Ar. Duseja is eager to expand his reach beyond Dehradun to cities across India. “The future of architecture lies in sustainability,” he believes, and as India urbanizes, there is an opportunity for architects to lead the way in eco-conscious design.
Ar. Duseja’s advice to young architects is simple but profound: “Believe in your craft, and the rest will follow.” He stresses that success in architecture comes not just from talent, but from perseverance, adaptability, and a strong belief in one’s work.
