The Language Engineer on a mission to train latest technologies used in the field of Localization Services

Dr. Leena Satpute – Program Manager, Fidel Softech Pvt. Ltd. & VP, Cantonment Club

For last 15 years Dr.Leena have been working in field of Localization. As a certified trainer for one of the technologies used in Localization which is SDL Trados Studio, she has become a pro in the field. She started working as a Language Engineer with Fidel Softech and today she has elevated to the role of program manager and working in PMO of Japanese section for the company. Besides her regular work, she is also involved in all types of technical and tool related research projects and technical trainings.

She is a Science Graduate with Statistics major from Pune University, Maharashtra, and completed her Masters in Project Management and Quality Management. She was always a studious person and have completed her Masters in Data Science. Besides studies and worklife, she has keen interests in knowing culture and art of different counties of the world, which further prompted her to study Advanced Diploma in Spanish and Japanese JLPT N2 level, Business Japanese. She also holds a certification in Ancient Indian Art and Architecture. These rare combinations of subjects and interests thus makes her a unique person.

She candidly opens about herself and tells us,

“I am someone who enjoys life to the fullest with positive attitude & open recipient mindset. I like to explore & touch all the beautiful aspects of our rich & pristine culture, all levels of society & animals & nature. Working for different types of industries, has been a part of my journey & I’m passionate about research and technologies.”

She has always been a huge cricket fan and follows the sports quite ardently. Her love for circket as well as statistics, had made her a great cricketing analyst. Since past 24 years she is involved in Statistical analysis work for one of the most renowned 20-20 tournaments held in Pune with one of the oldest and Prestigious Sports Club. She is currently working as Vice President of this Club since 2019. No doubt, one can generate wonderful outcome, when passion and profession mix well together.

Inspite of highly responsible career, Dr.Leena dons several hats. She is the Joint-secretary of a NGO that works for Ancient Indian Art and Architecture and heritage monuments. Along with this role, she also represents herself as a “Reviewer” for Institute of Scholars (Bangalore), “Active member” of Indian Translators Association and many other professional groups.  She is also the Treasurer of Prestigious AAS Ashram Shirdi since 2022. The vision is to build a world, full of hope, compassion and positive action where every person has the opportunity to live a healthy, productive and creative life. “AAS” means HOPE… One Hope Building the Nation” being the motto. The organisation aspires to create awareness and bring about a change, in the areas of health, education, environment and sustainable livelihood for under privileged communities. There cannot be true peace of mind in the entire world as long as a part of the world is suffering from poverty, hunger, disadvantage and other deprivations. Aspiring to build a brighter, better and secure future. AAS ashram envisions development of communities by promoting equality among all beings. 

Recalling her initial days of career, Dr.Leena says,

“When I started working with Fidel Softech it was pretty new in the Field of localization. But today we are one of the top listed localization companies not just in India but around the globe. Fidel is providing services for almost all types of Language needs including bilingual staffing, Automation anywhere, AI/ML, corpus creation, video and software localization services etc.”

As an inquisitive individual, she is passionate about learning new things. This has helped her a lot throughout her career and in the journey of her life so far. She draws constant inspiration from her family members, parents who are always supportive and a guid, without whom it would have been a difficult world out there. She says,

“I can proudly say from ancient era all the “Sthapati” who blessed all Indians with amazing architectures and master pieces are my Idols, how professionally they were good and they were deep source of knowledge not just in architecture or mathematics but geography, metallurgy, science, art, directions, sculptures, crafts, yoga, meditation, Sanskrit and may diverse fields. They inspired me to become a versatile person to have more than one skill and practice them efficiently.”

Like any successful individual, Dr.Leena too had to face initial hardships. While starting her career she faced a huge challenge from Engineering candidates, as they came from technical background and companies preferred hiring them. During this struggling phase, she undertook additional degree or certification which would give her an edge. And that’s when she learned 2 foreign languages, and it changed the course of her life drastically. That’s why she believes in updating self with new techniques so as to remain competitive.

To all newcomers, she advices to take risks and never say no to any new or non-traditional projects or tasks. Remaining focussed, and analyzing correctly what are goals and create path will further help to achieve new heights.

Her effort has being recognised by many industry bodies, resulting into several awards and felicitations. She has bagged – Independent Inspiring Woman Award 2022, World Women ICON 2022, Finalist for Globant Award 2021, Global Women Achievers 2021 Award, Best Teaching Award from IEA Dec 2021, Education Excellence Award for contribution to the Education community from EEA MAY2021, Women Researcher Award from Nation Education Brilliance Award Mar 2021, Research Excellence Award from Institute of Scholars (InSC) Nov 2020, The Real Super Women 2020 Award in “Academic Skills” for city Pune, Academic Excellence from BJP (Kasaba Matadar Sangh Pune, Maharashtra) on the occasion of Women’s day 2020, Awarded Honoris Causa in Doctor of Philosophy In Fine Arts by Theophany University Haiti.

Some of her Research Work involves – Machine translation techniques and Translation Memory Technologies used in the field of Localization. She has presented a research paper on “Machine and Memory tools in Translation” in International Conference on Technology and Globalization in Multilingual Context held in Year 2012. She has also researched on Intellectual Property Rights in India for Academic Music Content in Year 2020, and on Computer Vision and Optical Character Recognition, for which the paper was submitted to 8th  IEEE UPCON 2021 International Conference.

This multi-talented women in corporate is an inspiration to all of us and we only hope she keeps contributing in similar manner to the company, to her clients and this society at large.
