Maya S. Nair- Director, MM Engineering Industries Pvt. Ltd, Baroda

 

With an extensive 25 years of experience, Maya S. Nair, a mother of two, has been extensively managing her father’s business. She took the responsibilities of her father’s business on her shoulders since childhood, and now she has moved to Baroda, with her husband to look after their family business. She is extremely responsive and customer oriented, which helps her connect with her clients in a better way. She is an intellectual person, who aces the art of Writing. She has authored a poetry book by the name, ‘Beyond Poetry’, which is available on Amazon and Flipkart.  

 

She discloses, “The best customer service is if your customer does not need to call you.” She believes in ‘word of mouth’ and credits its power behind the success of ‘MM Engineering industries’. Sharing more about the venture, Maya tells that ‘MM Engineering Industries’ is her family business, initiated by her father, Mr. Raghavan Nair in 1995. After intense training for complete 2 years under her father’s guidance, she mastered the art of management, and now she takes care of the business wisely. While taking their family business to new heights; Maya looks after the HR department and its marketing, her father looks after its financial department and her husband manages the Galvanizing plant ‘Pramukh Galvanizers’ in por GIDC, Baroda.

 

She adores her father and looks up to him as her idol, whose values and discipline is the story behind their company’s success- from one company to 2 units; “It’s his strong will and God’s grace”, Maya avers. Maya S. Nair comes from the ‘Commerce’ educational background while ‘MM Engineering Industries’ is an engineering firm, which initially troubled her to get along with the operations, but time teaches everything, “ And I currently manage a team of 17 workers, the staff and yes, the clients too”, she smiles.

 

Maya shares about the challenges she undertook while climbing the ladder of success through their family business. She affirms, “Yes, challenges are the biggest motivators… and the financial challenges we undertook to complete huge orders eventually brought us a fortune”. “When the company was incepted, cable tray manufacturers were very few and the market was huge. And dealing with ABB – a renowned company, imparted us with an idea to start MM engineering Industries’”, she says.

 

Maya, the dynamic taskmaster reflects, “I believe that you don’t build a business. You build people and the people build business. I am a soft spoken person and treat clients as kings; in turn they help me build my business”.
