A Woman Who Walks In Her Own Footsteps

Jenny Laffery

Forging your own path forward in life is a feat that so few of us are ever able to do, and yet it is often the only available path to living your dream. Jenny Laffery’s story is one of breaking through multiple glass ceilings and the façade of meager societal expectations to act upon all that she deemed desirable. Born in a small-town family in Jharkhand, she worked her way up to working in an IT firm in Chennai. But she found her dreams to be too big to fit in a cubicle, and she quit.

Being a computer engineer and working for an IT firm in Chennai wasn’t making me happy, so I left my job and started working as a model.

It is hard to follow your dreams, especially when they do not fit into your life’s trajectory. But Jenny clearly had what it takes to start over and do what she felt would make her happy. She took her new pursuits seriously and made it a point to be humble towards all potential opportunities to learn. She also refused to take any monetary assistance from her family and chose to monetize over her grit and resolve instead.

I spent a lot of time studying markets while I was modeling. I visited spas and saw how they serviced their clients, and their shortcomings motivated me to start my own spa. I had to face a lot of challenges to learn how to work in a metropolitan city. I took a lot of risks in my life, and it has only made me stronger.

If you talk to Jenny today, she would readily admit that she decided to leave something that felt comfortable to do what felt necessary, which made her who she is today. She has explored multiple avenues in her life and succeeded in all of them – right now; she is a successful entrepreneur, a model, a dancer, an actor, a singer, and a fashion/traveler blogger. And yet she is refreshingly humble; what’s more, she actually considers it to be the sole reason why she was able to pursue her desires successfully.

Being a model made me realize the potential I have to be an entrepreneur. The reason why I think I succeeded is very simple – I am very modest and true to my roots. Being selfless and harmless is important to me. Everything I have achieved is by keeping this principle in mind.

Her achievements and enchanting personality have garnered quite a bit of attention; she was recently declared the Woman Achiever of the Year, and over the years she has also earned accolades in the field of modeling, from being Miss Chennai and winning the Tamil Ponnu Beautiful prize, to winning Miss South India and even Miss Beauty International in Doha, Qatar. She is also a national level dancer. She has truly built a career for herself from scratch and is a true inspiration for women all around India and the World, who want to break out of their shells with a big dream and a fresh resolve in their hearts.
