Mr. Mahesh Iyer- Founder, The Jump Start

Mr. Mahesh Iyer, the founder of ‘The Jump Start’, is a success story in more ways than one. He envisions empowering the huge mass of untapped talent lying under the layers in the hinterland of India, to which he describes as ‘virgin land of talent’.

Carrying a rich experience 20 years in HR profession, Mahesh believes in contributing towards the advancement of society, with a special inclination towards the bottom of the pyramid. He has been tapping the potential in this space to generate employability and livelihood for the needy.

His passion and never dying will to support the agenda of generating employability through his employers, had been burning strong till the time he got deflected from this agenda, which turned his life 180 degrees; and eventually he began his selfless journey of making India the ‘Skill Capital of the World’.

Hence, came ‘The Jump Start’ in the picture, which is a skill formation and employability enrichment venture curated by industry professionals possessing extensive experience in the field of human capital formation through talent identification and development, academia affiliations, training and consulting.

The Jump Start imparts quintessential knowledge and skills to graduate talent making them employable & organizations future ready and competitive”, Mahesh Iyer reflects, adding “We are transforming lives by creating value for people”.

He has a soft corner for the entire segment of the under-served youth of India who have the zeal towards contributing to the attractive economy with their newly acquired skills through the skill development economy.

Mr. Mahesh Iyer shares his part of struggles during this journey – As there is no substitute for struggles/ problems to attain your aspirations and goals, he considers struggles as a boiling point for doing things ‘first time right’. He admits that struggles has given him immense learning to realize what could a world be without problems, to which he feels proud of helming the problems of his entrepreneurial journey with utmost integrity and commitment.

He recalls a few of his initial problems, “Recreating my brand from an individual to an organization was a task, but it also made me realize that what I attained as a professional may not have completely complimented me as an Entrepreneur in the industry”, adding, “Apparently, both are mutually exclusive aspirations”.

Having worked with many MNCs and global organizations taking up senior level assignments in HR, pushing the frontiers to witness a brand new horizons with his entrepreneurial passion, had been a turning point for him as a Leader. “And, fueling the faith of success at all times had been a challenge”, he says, adding, “As an Entrepreneur, you cannot measure success unless you have experienced the essence of failure. And I believe this is a continual journey in the path to progress”.

Identifying an opportunity in the market had not been tough for him as the workforce inadequacy is a blatant phenomenon yet to be manifested. He discloses, “The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), India currently faces a severe shortage of well-trained, skilled workers leading to gap in the demand and supply. It is further estimated that only 2.3% of the workforce in India has undergone formal skill training as compared to other developed countries. A large section of the educated workforce has little or no job skills, making them largely unemployable“. Witnessing this opportunity, the Skill Curator went on to the skill journey of promoting an inclusive growth for the under-served and untapped talent pool existing in India.

Mr. Mahesh Iyer, who has won many mementos, accolades, certificates of recognition in the Skill Development & Employability Enrichment space, believes that every person is created uniquely either as a professional or as an individual.
